A Wedding Weekend at Hidden Gem of Gruene: From Welcome Party to Poolside Farewell Brunch

There's a reason couples keep calling us a "destination wedding venue", and it has nothing to do with how far away we are. Tucked along the banks of the Guadalupe River, just a third of a mile from Historic Downtown Gruene, the Hidden Gem of Gruene is the kind of place where your guests arrive as travelers and leave as family. Because when your ceremony, reception, lodging, and farewell brunch all happen on the same 21 acres, the weekend takes on a rhythm all its own.
If you've ever wondered what it actually looks like to use every inch of our property across a full wedding weekend, this post is for you. Here's a real, hour-by-hour look at three days — Friday through Sunday — at the Hidden Gem of Gruene.

Friday: Check-In & the Welcome Party
4:00 PM — Guests Arrive and Settle In
Out-of-town guests start rolling in on Friday afternoon. Instead of navigating a dozen different Airbnbs or hotel lobbies across New Braunfels, they pull right up to the property and check into our fully furnished 2- and 3-bedroom condos. Each condo sleeps 6–8 guests comfortably, which means wedding parties, families, and college friends can actually be together. Bags get dropped, drinks get poured from the kitchen, and the group chat finally goes quiet because everyone is already in the same place. For the couple, this moment is everything. No frantic "where is everyone?" texts. No one stuck in traffic from a hotel across town. The weekend has officially begun!
5:00 PM — A Stroll Through Gruene
With a few hours before the evening's festivities, guests have the perfect built-in adventure: historic downtown Gruene is a short walk up the hill. The famous Gruene Hall, the oldest continually operating dance hall in Texas, built in 1878, is just minutes away. Couples who love Texas music often plan a quick detour here on Friday afternoon. It's the kind of thing that turns guests into fans of New Braunfels for life.
The Guadalupe River is equally close, and in warmer months, a quick float or riverside walk before dinner is absolutely on the table.

7:00 PM — Welcome Party in the Event Space
Here's where the Hidden Gem truly shines as a resort-style venue rather than a single-event location. While most venues hand you the keys and say goodbye after the wedding itself, we host the full weekend, including the rehearsal dinner or welcome party in our 12,000-square-foot event space. For Friday's welcome party, the space transforms from "grand wedding venue" into something warmer and more relaxed. Think long farmhouse tables, soft candlelight from our included votive and floating candles, and the kind of evening where toasts go a little long because everyone keeps asking for the microphone. The built-in bar setup means drinks flow without a hitch, and the catering kitchen makes hosting a plated dinner or a casual spread equally effortless. The bridal suite and groom's lounge, available as part of your venue rentalm, become pre-party staging areas, giving the couple a quiet moment to breathe before they walk into the room.
9:00 PM — Around the Pool
Once dinner wraps, the evening spills outside. The pool area becomes the unofficial gathering spot for the night owls in the group. Cold drinks, string lights, Hill Country air, and the kind of easy conversation that only happens when no one has anywhere to be in the morning. The on-site lodging means no one is watching the clock for a rideshare. The night ends when people are ready, not when logistics demand it.
Saturday: The Big Day
10:00 AM — Getting Ready
The 14-hour Saturday venue rental opens at 10:00 AM, and the Hidden Gem is in full motion. The bridal suite fills with hair tools, champagne flutes, and the muffled sound of someone's wedding playlist. Meanwhile, the groom's lounge becomes its own world entirely — a little calmer, a little louder in different ways. Having private, dedicated getting-ready rooms on-site means your photographer captures everything without hunting down a separate Airbnb or hotel suite. The morning light at the Hidden Gem is especially beautiful for these shots, with the oak canopy and Hill Country views as a natural backdrop.

12:00 PM — Ceremony Preparations
The main hall is being dressed while the wedding party gets ready. Our included decor package means the room doesn't start from scratch, chandelier drapery, faux greenery, LED pillar candles, table runners in your chosen color, Chiavari chairs, and your ceremony arch (choose from a wooden cross, wooden hexagon, or golden circle) are all part of the package. Your florals and personal touches layer right on top.
Outside, the ceremony site beneath the live oak trees is coming together. There's something about saying your vows under a canopy of Texas oaks, with the Hill Country rolling out behind you, that photographs don't quite capture — though they certainly try.
4:00 PM — The Ceremony
The moment everything has been building toward. Guests are seated under the shade of those majestic oaks, ceremony chairs arranged just so, the welcome mirror and seating chart mirrors positioned at the entrance. The LOVE letters are lit. The arch stands waiting. Whether you choose an outdoor ceremony in the golden afternoon light or an indoor ceremony inside the climate-controlled event center (something many couples genuinely appreciate in the Texas summer heat), the space holds up to 250 guests and makes every single one of them feel like they have a great seat.

5:00 PM — Cocktail Hour
Guests move to the cocktail area as the wedding party finishes portraits. The Hill Country view that serves as your ceremony backdrop becomes the backdrop for your cocktail hour too — guests linger, drinks in hand, looking out over the property. The stage uplighting begins to warm the indoor space as the sun starts its descent. This golden hour on the grounds of the Hidden Gem is, according to nearly every photographer who has worked here, absolutely unbeatable.
6:00 PM — Reception
The doors open, the DJ counts in the first song, and the reception begins in the full glory of the event center. The climate-controlled indoor space comfortably seats 250 for dinner with room for a large dance floor — and trust us, the dance floor gets used. The bar is stocked, the catering kitchen is firing, and the space you've been envisioning for months is finally, actually happening. The stage uplighting shifts the mood as the night progresses. Dinner, toasts, first dances, cake, dancing — the 14-hour rental window means you never feel rushed through any of it.

11:00 PM — Winding Down (On Property)
Here's the part that couples who've hosted destination weddings elsewhere always comment on: at midnight, when the event center rental wraps, nobody has to go anywhere. The wedding party and overnight guests walk — not drive, walk — back to the condos. The pool area becomes the after-party venue for those who aren't ready to call it a night. Sandals come off, ties get loosened, and the Hill Country night air does the rest.
Sunday: The Farewell Brunch
9:30 AM — A Slow Morning in the Condos
This is the unsung hero of a full-weekend wedding. Sunday morning in the condos has its own magic. Fully equipped kitchens mean someone inevitably makes coffee for the whole unit. Kids are in pajamas. The bride and groom are no longer nervous newlyweds — they're just happy people, basking in the glow of what just happened. Someone pulls up the photos that have already started appearing online. Someone else orders more breakfast supplies delivered. There is genuinely no better version of Sunday morning than this one.

11:00 AM — Poolside Farewell Brunch
The final act of the weekend: a relaxed, poolside farewell brunch. The pool area — which hosted cocktails on Friday night and the unofficial after-party on Saturday — becomes a sun-drenched brunch spot on Sunday. Mimosas, a light spread, lawn chairs, the sound of the Guadalupe River in the near distance.
No formal toasts required. No seating chart. Just your favorite people, a beautiful Texas morning, and the collective knowledge that you all just pulled off something pretty spectacular together. This is also when guests who drove in from San Antonio, Austin, or Houston do something they didn't expect: they look up the condos to see if they can book a return weekend. Just for vacation. Just because the Hidden Gem has that effect.
1:00 PM — See You Next Time
Check-out feels different when the weekend has been this full. Hugs last longer. There are more promises to visit soon. The newlyweds stand in the parking lot for twenty minutes saying goodbye because nobody quite wants to leave. That's the thing about the Hidden Gem of Gruene: it's not just a venue. It's the setting for three days of your story — the late nights, the morning coffees, the golden-hour portraits, the barefoot pool moments. It's a destination wedding without the destination price tag, and it's right here in New Braunfels.
